Nearly 200 Baysiders braved the rain to attend the Vigil - held at Pandanus Beach – in a showcase of solidarity in addressing this critical issue during Domestic and Family Violence Awareness Month.

As Baysiders, it's crucial that we come together to support survivors, remember those lost to violence, and advocate for change within our community.

This year, we were fortunate to have Ros Kinder from Brisbane East Zonta speak about the importance of being united in creating positive social change – that all of us, including men, are part of the solution to ending DFV.

It was also wonderful to see so many of our Bayside school students and their families; our Police officers; business owners; and members of our local community groups, including BABI, the Rotary Club of Wynnum Manly and SCOPE.

Beyond just a gathering, the Vigil served as a call to action. It reminded us of our responsibility as members of the Bayside community to speak out against domestic violence, educate our community and maintain accountability as we work towards a brighter, safer future for all.

I thank all Baysiders who attended this year’s Vigil.

Bayside DV Candlelight Vigil 2024

The health centre is unique to the area, state-of-the-art and provides a welcoming, peaceful environment with landscaped gardens and purpose-built gyms and treatment rooms.

From date of open in October 2017 to February 2024, Gundu Pa has seen over 107,500 patients! This wouldn’t be possible without the wonderful staff who work there.

The name Gundu Pa is a combination of two words in the local Jandai language meaning ‘medicine stones place’. 

Our local 24-hour health hub was given the name as suggested by Winnam Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporation.

Discover Wynnum Manly Comunity Health Centre, Gundu Pa

The TISSI is a collaboration between the Department of Education and Tennis Queensland, with the support of Tennis Australia, to encourage state school students to lead active and healthy lifestyles through improved participation in the sport of tennis.

The initiative is a co-funding arrangement with a total $2.2 million budget (including GST) across the 2022, 2023 and 2024 calendar years.

The total project budget is $39,600 (excluding GST) and is comprised of a 25 per cent contribution from Tennis Queensland, 50 per cent from the Department, and 25 per cent from the school.

These funds will refurbish the tennis court including resurfacing, line marking, and a new net and posts.

Delivering a fully refurbished tennis court will provide local students with a modern surface where they can develop their skills in a safe environment.

Sports like tennis have an unparalleled ability to change young lives for the better, which is why we’re investing right here at Tingalpa State School.

Our partnership with Tennis Queensland is another example of how the Miles Government is working with sporting bodies to unlock the next generations, Ash Barty.
