Thursday, 9 May 2024 marked the Bayside DV Candlelight Vigil, an important annual event where we take a stand against domestic and family violence (DFV) in our community.
Nearly 200 Baysiders braved the rain to attend the Vigil - held at Pandanus Beach – in a showcase of solidarity in addressing this critical issue during Domestic and Family Violence Awareness Month. As Baysiders, it's crucial that we come together to support survivors, remember those lost to violence, and advocate for change within our community. This year, we were fortunate to have Ros Kinder from Brisbane East Zonta speak about the importance of being united in creating positive social change – that all of us, including men, are part of the solution to ending DFV. It was also wonderful to see so many of our Bayside school students and their families; our Police officers; business owners; and members of our local community groups, including BABI, the Rotary Club of Wynnum Manly and SCOPE. Beyond just a gathering, the Vigil served as a call to action. It reminded us of our responsibility as members of the Bayside community to speak out against domestic violence, educate our community and maintain accountability as we work towards a brighter, safer future for all. I thank all Baysiders who attended this year’s Vigil.
