Joan was elected to the Queensland Parliament as the Member for Lytton in January 2015.
Since her election, Joan has been working hard to deliver results for Lytton in the key areas of health, jobs and education.
Joan is particularly proud of working to restore 24-hour public health services to the local area with the construction of the new Wynnum Manly Health Centre (Gundu Pa).
Joan’s other local achievements include:
- Helping young people into work by restoring funding for the successful Skilling Queenslanders for Work program
- Upgrading local schools with funding for new facilities at Wynnum West, Darling Point and Brisbane Bayside plus a teacher aide in all prep classes
- Cleaning up Wynnum Creek and the removal of derelict, polluting boats
Joan is currently the Senior Government Whip and has been a member of the Public Works and Utilities Committee, Transportation and Utilities Committee, Legal Affairs and Community Safety Committee, Infrastructure, Planning and Safety Committee, Education, Tourism and Small Business Committee, the Parliamentary Crime and Corruption Committee and the Health, Communities, Disability Services and Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Committee.
Prior to entering parliament Joan built a career in Adult Education in both the corporate and community sector and also ran a small business in the heart of her electorate.
She has always been a strong advocate for and volunteer in the community sector. She continues this work improving local health services, protecting the local environment and establishing support programs for victims of domestic violence.
She is the patron of the Wynnum Manly Historical Association, the Wynnum Manly Yacht Club, the Bayside Woodturners and Woodcrafters Club and the Bayside Eastern District Orchid Society.

Joan has lived in Wynnum for over 30 years with her husband, Peter. They have two adult children, Callum and Audrey.
